Hyperflexing is not the only abusive use of training devices. It is great the FEI has ruled now, but we need to have data to show what the parameters are of a stressed horse. I wrote two books in German specially targeted at Stress Management in Horses. Unfortunately, they did not make it to the FEI. Now I am training vets to diagnose Bad Riding Compensation Syndrome (BRCS) so they can diagnose the physical disorder caused by such things as hyperflexing.

I have never believed in rollkur! I unfortunately have seen many disciplines that use this method. People naturally emulate those that win or get quick results!

Personally, I understand why they wear double bridals and spurs, due to military background, but I would love to see Int GP allow just a snaffle and no spurs allowed with a Dbl bridle or spurs not to be penalized.

There are many ways to communicate with horses but a kind and responsive relationship yields better results.

Horses are incredible beings…and essentially more evolved as beings in my opinion!

Now that we know (with scientific proof) of the pain and damage that Rollkur inflicts to horses, it should clearly be banned! How can anyone who remotely likes horses can continue to use this practice knowingly is beyond me. I am for the banning the rollkur practice anywhere. Make it illegal.

Carolyn, you spoke so eloquently and gave sound clear rational to the reasons and differences of different methods of training horses in dressage. It was fascinating and informative and your genuine professionalism shines through. Please, please Carolyn keep doing what u are doing. I believe too, the change can happen if we all stand up and make the right choice of joining/supporting the ‘humane competitive communities’ that are growing in number.
